NFL Week 8: 49ers vs. Eagles Predictions Against the Spread 10/29/17
Will the 49ers cover as a double-digit road underdog on Sunday when they visit the red-hot Eagles at 1:00PM ET?
The Odds: 49ers at Eagles, 1:00PM ET, Sunday
According to oddsmakers, Philadelphia is a 13-point home favorite versus San Francisco. The Eagles opened as an 11.5-point favorite earlier this week but the line jumped to 13. As for the total, the number hit the board at 47.5 but was bet down to 44.
San Francisco enters play with a 0-7 record overall but a 4-3 record against the spread. Philadelphia, meanwhile, is 6-1 on the field and 5-2 at the betting window.
San Francisco 49ers
Right tackle Trent Brown isn’t expected to play this afternoon due to a concussion. He’ll miss at least one week and will be replaced by Garry Gilliam opposite Joe Staley in pass protection. It’s a concern today for rookie quarterback C.J. Beathard’s pass protection.
On a positive note, receiver Marquise Goodwin is expected to play. He returned to practice after being held out on Thursday due to a back injury. It’s doubtful Goodwin will be 100 percent but having the speedster on the field as a deep threat is vital.
Philadelphia Eagles
With Jason Peters out for the season, Halapoulivaati Vaitai is expected to move to left tackle. The team could have moved Lane Johnson to the left side, but they decided to go with Vaitai, a swing tackle. A fifth-round second-year player, Vaitai has struggled.
Cornerback Ronald Darby, meanwhile, will not play against the 49ers due to an ankle injury. He dislocated the ankle and still needs another week to heal.
Our Prediction
I don’t like this spot for the Eagles. They’re coming off a victory on Monday night against a division rival in primetime and now have to get back up for a winless 49ers team while also playing on short rest. Philadelphia has been on fire lately, but injuries are starting to pile up and again, I view this as a letdown spot for Doug Pederson’s team.
The 49ers are 4-1 against the spread in their last five road games. They’re also 4-1 against the number in their last five conference games. They’ve been competitive in nearly every game this season, save for last week against the Cowboys and Week 1 against the Panthers. I’ll take the points.
NFL Week 8 Prediction: San Francisco 49ers +13
