Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers, the Yankees as a -175 favorite. As of this writing, 59% of the betting tickets wagered at online sportsbooks are on the Yankees to beat the A’s on the moneyline. The total, meanwhile, sits at 8.5 runs.
A’s Hendriks to be team’s opening pitcher Wednesday night
Liam Hendriks will serve as the Athletics’ opener in Wednesday’s Wild Card Game against the Yankees. That’s been the expectation in recent days and it’s now official. Hendriks has pitched as an “opener” in eight games this season while posting a 2.08 ERA and 7/3 K/BB ratio in 8 2/3 innings. The A’s don’t have a traditional ace, but they have a loaded bullpen. They are going to try to roll with it to earn a trip to the ALDS.
Severino starting Wild Card game for Yankees
Luis Severino will start Wednesday’s AL Wild Card Game against the Athletics. J.A. Happ had seemingly become the favorite in recent days, so the decision comes as a minor surprise. Still, Severino finished the regular season strong, allowing two runs or fewer in each of his last three outings. If he gets off to a shaky start, similar to last year, the Yankees have plenty of help in their bullpen.
MLB Betting Trends
The A’s are 1-6 in their last seven road playoff games and 4-11 in their last 15 playoff games overall.
The Yankees have won five of their last seven games overall and 22 of Severino’s last 26 home starts.
Severino was ripped for six runs on six hits with a walk in just 2 2/3 innings at Oakland on September 5. This A’s team has power, grit, and is essentially playing with house money because nobody expected them to be here. Severino has had plenty of ups and downs throughout the year and I’m banking on the A’s bullpen game keeping the Bronx Bombers at bay.
The Pick: Oakland A’s +157
