Public Betting Trends

According to oddsmakers, the Patriots are 10-point favorites to beat the Colts. The total, meanwhile, sits at 50.5 points. As of this writing, 53% of betting tickets are on Indianapolis to cover the spread.

Indianapolis Colts

T.Y. Hilton (hamstring) is out for Week 5 against the Patriots. Hilton injured his chest in the first quarter last week and then pulled his hamstring in the fourth frame. The hamstring is the more serious issue and could cost him more than this game. In his absence, the Colts will roll with a receiver trio of Chester Rogers, Ryan Grant, and Zach Pascal.

New England Patriots

Josh Gordon (hamstring) is questionable for Week 5 against the Colts. Gordon, who has been a limited participant at practice the past few days, should be fine for Thursday night’s matchup with Indianapolis. The 27-year-old played sparingly in his Patriots debut last week, seeing the field on just 18-of-81 offensive snaps. While it’s fair to expect a bigger workload for Gordon this time around, his role in the Patriots’ offense is still being determined. That makes him a risky fantasy play.

NFL Betting Trends

Colts

The Colts are 12-3-1 against the spread in their last 16 games played on Thursday.

Patriots

The Patriots have covered the spread in seven of their last seven home games when facing an opponent with a losing road record.

Prediction

Both of these teams are banged up, with the Colts missing several offensive linemen, Hilton and running back Marlon Mack. The Patriots, meanwhile, might not have Gordon and while tight end Rob Gronkowski is expected to play, he too is dealing with injuries. The Patriots looked sharp a week ago against the Dolphins but now play on short rest versus a Colts team that has been in every one of their games thus far. Far be it for me to bet against Tom Brady but this is too many points.
