NFL Week 3 Predictions: Will Rams vs. 49ers fall under total? 9/21/17

Rams vs Falcons

Will tonight’s NFC West matchup between the Rams and 49ers turn into a defensive struggle?

The Betting Odds: Rams at 49ers, 8:25PM ET, Levi’s Stadium

According to oddsmakers, the 49ers are 2.5-point home underdogs to beat the Rams. While the point spread hasn’t moved off the original number, the over/under has dropped. After hitting the board at 42, the total is now down to 39.5.

Los Angeles Rams Betting Trends

The Rams are 1-4 against the spread in their last five road games, are 1-8 against the number in their last 10 games overall, and are winless at 0-8-1 at the betting window in their last nine games versus NFC opponents. They’re also 2-6 against the spread in their last eight Thursday game and are 1-6 against the number in their last seven games following a straight up loss.

San Francisco 49ers Betting Trends

The Niners are a perfect 4-0 against the spread in their last four games versus divisional opponents, but are just 1-7 at the betting window in their last eight home games. They’re also 4-10 against the number in their last 14 games coming off a loss, are 5-12 against the spread in their last 17 games overall, and are 4-9 at the betting window in their last 13 games versus a NFC opponent.

Our Prediction

I don’t trust either of these two teams to score. Jared Goff lit up the Colts in Week 1, but Indianapolis has one of the worst rosters in football. Brian Hoyer, meanwhile, has done nothing in Kyle Shanahan’s offense. In fact, Hoyer has yet to lead the 49ers on a touchdown drive this season.

The under is a perfect 4-0 in the last four meetings between these two teams in San Francisco. It is also 4-1 in the last five meetings overall and should cash again tonight with these two teams playing on short rest.
