MLB Predictions: Will the Twins top the Tigers in Detroit? 9/21/17

MLB Predictions

Can the Minnesota Twins avoid a letdown on the road when they take on the Detroit Tigers tonight at 7:10PM ET? Here’s our MLB Predictions for this game.

According to oddsmakers at, Minnesota is favored on the road, as the Twins are getting odds of -120 to win, while the Tigers are listed with a money line of +110 to prevail. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 10 runs. Detroit has won five of its last eight meetings with Minnesota.

Today’s pitching matchup has Adalberto Mejia (4-6, 4.62 ERA) on the mound for the Twins to face Jordan Zimmerman (8-12, 6.18) of the Tigers. Zimmerman hasn’t pitched in 19 days. He gave up 29 runs over his last five starts. On the year, he has 96 strikeouts with 42 walks and a 1.58 WHIP. Mejia has allowed at least three runs in his last three starts, lasting a total of 10 innings. Mejia has 77 strikeouts this season with 40 walks and a 1.57 WHIP.

Minnesota is riding a three game losing streak and the Twins have lost five of their last six to drop to 78-74 overall and 39-35 on the road. The Twins are still second in the AL Wild Card race, 1.5 games ahead of the Angles and 7 games behind the Yankees. Minnesota is scoring 4.94 runs per game while allowing 4.96 per contest. Brian Dozier is leading the team with 31 home runs, 26 doubles and 85 RBI. Eddie Rosario is adding 30 doubles, 26 home runs and 72 RBI.

Detroit has lost three straight and eight of its last 10 to fall to 62-90 overall and 34-43 at home. The Tigers are putting up 4.65 runs per game while allowing 5.47 per game. Nicholas Castellanos is leading the team with 24 home runs, 34 doubles and 94 RBI. Miguel Cabrera is adding 16 home runs and 60 RBI.

Neither pitcher inspires much confidence today, but Mejia actually has some great road numbers. Over six road starts he has a 2-1 record with a 2.54 ERA and opponents are hitting just .222 against him. That should work out well against this Detroit team that looks like it gave up a long time ago. Zimmerman also won’t likely have success on the mound today, as he has been a mess all year. If the Twins are going to hang on to this Wild Card spot, they have to win these road games.
