Cubs’ Hendricks allows four runs in loss to Reds
Kyle Hendricks gave up four runs over 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Reds on Thursday. Hendricks cruised through five innings with minimal issues, but the sixth spelled trouble and ended up spelling his doom. It was his control that betrayed him, as he issued three walks — including a run-scoring walk to Eugenio Suarez — and a Jesse Winker grand slam after he exited saddled Hendricks with three more earned runs against. It was a poor ending to a decent start, and the loss was the fourth in the last five decisions for the 28-year-old. Through 15 starts, he’s now 5-7 with a 3.73 ERA and 1.15 WHIP.
Dodgers’ Wood allows two runs in win over Mets
Alex Wood improved to 3-5 on the year after limiting the Mets to two runs over six innings on Friday. The only damage was a two-run blast from Jose Bautista in the sixth inning. Wood gave up six hits in all while walking one and striking out seven. He’s now won back-to-back starts for the first time this season. The southpaw will bring a 4.13 ERA into a start against the Cubs next week.
