Braves’ Teheran rocked for seven runs in loss
Julio Teheran was crushed for seven runs on six hits over 4 2/3 innings in Saturday’s loss to the Orioles. Oh goodness. This one was a debacle from the start, as Teheran opened the contest walking Colby Rasmus, surrendering a double to Adam Jones and walking Manny Machado to load the bases with nobody out. They wouldn’t remain loaded for long. Next batter up was Mark Trumbo, who proceeded to launch a grand slam to dead center to give the O’s a 4-0 lead. He would again load the bases with nobody out in the fifth inning. That sticky situation was one which he nearly escaped from, but after recording two outs, he yielded a bases-clearing double to Chris Davis and was relieved of duty thereafter. Teheran finished up his miserable afternoon’s work having struck out six and walked three.
The showing was a far, far cry from his 11-strikeout gem against the Padres last time out. He’ll try to get back on track when he carries his 4.52 ERA and 1.25 WHIP into a road showdown with the Cardinals next time out. For reference’s sake, Teheran’s ERA was sitting at 3.97 prior to Saturday’s failures.
Cardinals’ Mikolas allows two runs in win over Brewers
Miles Mikolas held the Brewers to two runs in 6 2/3 innings and took home a win on Saturday. He suffered a rough first inning in which he gave up two runs but was masterful from there on out. He surrendered just three hits and two walks in the ballgame while fanning five. The veteran hurler re-invented himself in the Japanese league and that success has translated well back in the major leagues. He is now 8-2 with a 2.69 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in 15 starts.
