Giants’ Rodriguez sharp in no-decision vs. Padres

Dereck Rodriguez allowed one earned run, four hits and a walk with six strikeouts over seven innings in a no-decision Sunday against the Padres. Rodriguez threw 69 of his 99 pitches for strikes in the quality start, matching fellow rookie Eric Lauer. The game ended up going into extra innings before the bullpens decided a winner. He’ll look to keep up the good work when the Giants hit the road next weekend for a series against the division rival Diamondbacks.

Diamondbacks’ Miller roughed up in return from the disabled list

Shelby Miller (elbow) allowed five earned runs, six hits and two walks with five strikeouts over 3 2/3 innings in a loss at Miami on Monday. Miller was making his first start since April 23, 2017 after a long recovery after reconstructive elbow surgery. There was sure to be rust, and he was able to throw just 52 of his 85 pitches for strikes. He also uncorked a wild pitch while throwing first-pitch strikes to 11 of the 19 batters he faced. On a positive note, he picked up an RBI via sac fly in his first game back, and he didn’t any to experience any ill effects from his elbow surgery. His next scheduled start is set for Saturday against the Giants and rookie Dereck Rodriguez.

MLB Betting Trends

San Francisco

The Giants have won 14 of their last 17 games against a right-handed starter.

Arizona

The Diamondbacks have won eight of their last nine games coming off a loss.

Prediction:

The Diamondbacks are winless in Miller’s last four starts against the Giants. They’re also just 2-9 in Miller’s last 11 home outings and 2-10 in his last 12 starts versus the National League West. He did not look sharp in his return last week and the Giants are playing good ball at the moment. Rodriguez has been solid since joining the starting rotation and San Francisco is 4-1 in his last five starts. They’re worth a play tonight.

The Pick: San Francisco Giants -105
