After getting blown out a year ago at home by Ohio State, will Oklahoma hang with the Buckeyes tonight?
The Matchup: Oklahoma vs. Ohio State, 7:30PM ET, Ohio Stadium
The Buckeyes opened as 6.5-point favorites for tonight’s game, but the line currently sits at OSU -7. As for the total, the number hit the board at 64 but was bet down to 63.5.
Oklahoma Sooners
The Sooners enter play tonight riding an 11-game winning streak. That’s the longest active win streak in the FBS. The Sooners are also seeking their first 12-game win streak since beginning the 2004 season at 12-0. Their last loss? Against these same Buckeyes in Week 2 last season. OU hasn’t lost in back-to-back regular seasons to the same non-conference opponent since 1997-98 against Cal.
These will be the fourth time these two programs have met, with all four matchups coming when both teams are ranked in the AP Top 15. In their last trip to Columbus, Barry Switzer and the No. 3 Sooners beat Woody Hayes and the No. 4 Buckeyes, 29-28. They kicked a game-winning field goal with three seconds remain in 1977.
Ohio State Buckeyes
This is the first time the Buckeyes will face an opponent that enters riding a double-digit win streak since 2009. They fell at home to No. 3 USC in that matchu.
This will also be the third time that coach Urban Meyer has faced a non-conference opponent riding a double-digit win streak. Meyer won each of the first two such games by 27 points according to ESPN.com.
Our Prediction
The Sooners have the ultimate wildcard in quarterback Baker Mayfield, who has the ability to win games with his play-making ability. They also have one of the best offensive lines in the country and a defensive front that can keep this game close throughout.
Oklahoma has won its last 11 true road games. Will the Sooners win tonight? I’m not willing to go that far, but I do think the game will be close throughout.
