Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers, the Wolverines are now 7.5-point road favorites to beat the Spartans after opening as a 5-point favorite. The total, meanwhile, sits at 40 points after hitting the board at 45. As of this writing, 56% of betting tickets are on the Spartans.
Michigan junior QB Shea Patterson said he hasn’t been limited in practices after he received five stitches on his left hand following Saturday’s win against Wisconsin. Patterson’s non-throwing hand was iced Tuesday as he spoke with reporters. The stitches were required to close a gash he suffered in Saturday’s win over Wisconsin. Patterson indicated to reporters that his left hand won’t effect him at all this weekend against Michigan State.
Michigan State Spartans
Michigan State redshirt junior QB Brian Lewerke completed 24-of-52 passes for 259 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in Saturday’s 21-17 win over Penn State. Lewerke might have attempted 52 passes, but he didn’t do a ton with most of them, averaging just 4.98 YPA on the late afternoon. The redshirt junior was able to come through clutch on MSU’s final offensive drive, though, with his slightly under-thrown 25-yard touchdown pass to Felton Davis in the final seconds boosting the Spartans to the upset. Lewerke’s mostly underwhelmed this season — same could be said for the team as a whole — but he’ll have several more chances for upset glory down the stretch. Michigan State will play Michigan next weekend and has a Nov. 10 date scheduled with Ohio State.
The Wolverines are 1-10 against the spread in their last 11 games versus the Spartans.
The Spartans are 5-0 against the number in their last five games versus the Wolverines in East Lansing.
John Harbaugh is 3-7 against the spread in their last 10 conference games after scoring 80 plus points in his last two games, including 0-6 against the number when coming off a double-digit win. There’s no question the Wolverines have the better team in this matchup but that hasn’t mattered in years past. Sparty finds a way to pull off upset after upset versus UM and I like them today as a home dog.
