North Carolina vs. Pittsburgh Predictions Against the Spread 11/9/17
Will Pittsburgh cover tonight as a sizable home favorite when the Panthers host North Carolina at 7:30 p.m. ET?
The Matchup: North Carolina at Pittsburgh, 7:30 p.m. ET, Thursday
According to oddsmakers, the Panthers are 9-point home favorites over the Tar Heels. As for the total, the number hit the board at 53.5 but dropped to 49.
The Tar Heels are 1-8 on the season and 1-2 on the road. The Panthers, meanwhile, are 4-5 on the year and 3-2 at home. From a betting standpoint, North Carolina is just 2-7 against the spread while Pitt is 3-4-2 against the number.
North Carolina Tar Heels
From Rotoworld: UNC redshirt freshman quarterback Chazz Surratt did not start the second half of Saturday’s game against Miami due to an undisclosed injury. Surratt attempted just three passes before leaving the game. With backup Brandon Harris not dressed out for the contest, the Tar Heels have been rolling with Nathan Elliott. There is a chance that Surratt might reenter the game — he was throwing the ball with his helmet on on the sidelines coming out of halftime — but for now this is Elliott’s show.
Pittsburgh Panthers
Pitt sophomore signal-caller Ben DiNucci will work as the starter for the remainder of the campaign with redshirt senior Max Browne undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery.
Dinucci is still considered the starter, but freshman QB Kenny Pickett continues to see reps. This is all in replacement for an injured Max Browne. In a perfect world, Pickett would’ve redshirted, but he entered the game in a blowout loss to NC State, eliminating that possibility. That leads us to believe he will see more and more opportunities moving forward.
Our Prediction
The Tar Heels are just 1-5 against the spread in their last six games overall. They’ve also dropped seven of their last eight conference games. They’re 1-6 against the number in their last seven games after allowing more than 280 yards passing in their previous game.
On the other side, the Panthers are 7-2-1 at the betting window in their last 10 games coming off a bye week and are 3-1-1 against the spread in their last five games overall.
