NFL Preseason Predictions: Will Dolphins & Eagles defenses struggle? 8/24/17
Will the Dolphins and Eagles break out their offenses tonight when they clash in Philadelphia at 7:00PM ET?
The Matchup: Dolphins vs. Eagles, 7:00PM ET, Lincoln Financial Field
According to oddsmakers, the Eagles are 3.5-point home favorites to beat the Dolphins tonight. The total, meanwhile, is sitting at 42 points. Neither the total nor the point spread have moved off the original number.
Miami Dolphins
Miami fell to 1-1 in preseason play with a 31-7 loss to Baltimore last Thursday. Jay Cutler completed 3-of-6 passes for 24 yards while David Fales was 6-for-14 for 41 yards. Senorise Perry led the team in rushing with six carries for 25 yards. DaVante Parker also caught a 16-yard pass.
Philadelphia Eagles
Philadelphia is also 1-1 in preseason play, although the team won last week whereas Miami lost. The Eagles beat the Bills 20-16 in Philadelphia. Carson Wentz was 6-of-9 for 56 yards while Corey Clement rushed eight times for 34 yards and a touchdown. Marcus Johnson led the Eagles in receiving, catching two passes for 45 yards.
Our Prediction:
Both Miami and Philadelphia should have strong defenses this season but neither is showing that right now. Miami surrendered 20 points to Atlanta in its first preseason game and allowed 31 points to Baltimore last week. Philadelphia, meanwhile, allowed 24 points to Green Bay in its first preseason matchup then allowed 16 last week to Buffalo.
Thus, for whatever reason, neither defense is playing up to par right now. Cutler already looks comfortable running Adam Gase’s offense again and Wentz settled in last week after two shaky drives to open their game versus Buffalo. I like both offenses to move the ball tonight.
