The Odds
According to oddsmakers, the Cardinals have an over/under of 8.5 for the number of wins in 2017. Arizona also has 35/1 odds to win the 2017 Super Bowl. They are 17/1 to win the NFC Conference Championship. Finally, the Cards are 7/2 to win the NFC West Division and have 3/2 odds of making the playoffs.
Arizona Cardinals Offseason Recap
After finishing with a 7-8-1 record and a second-place finish in the NFC West, the Cardinals added several pieces to their defense. Safety Antoine Bethea was added in free agency, as was linebacker Karlos Dansby, who returns to Arizona for the third time in his career. The team also added former Steeler pass-rusher Jarvis Jones and quarterback Blaine Gabbert to back up starter Carson Palmer.
As for the draft, the Cardinals selected linebacker Haason Reddick in the first round and took safety Budda Baker in the second. Receiving Chad Williams was the team’s third-round selection while guard Dorian Johnson was taken in the fourth.
Meanwhile, Calais Campbell was the team’s biggest loss, as was safety Tony Jefferson. Kevin Minter, Alex Okafor, Darren Fells, D.J. Swearinger, Daryl Washington and Earl Watford were among the other departures.
Season Prediction: Arizona Cardinals
One of the early numbers in Vegas for the Cardinals was over/under 8. At 8 wins, I loved the over. At 8.5, I’m a little more hesitant but I still see enough value in taking the over for the Cardinals in 2017.
Under head coach Bruce Arians, the Cardinals have posted double-digit wins in 3-of-4 seasons and their schedule in 2017 is favorable. Palmer took a significant step backwards in 2016 (especially compared to his MVP runner-up finish in 2015), but the return of John Brown (sickle cell) and offensive tackle Jared Veldheer (triceps) is huge. If Tyrann Mathieu (knee) can also stay healthy, this team is too talented to win fewer than 8 games in 2017 so I’ll roll the dice on the over.
