The Odds: Pirates vs. Cardinals, 8:15PM ET, Busch Stadium

St. Louis is currently a -116 money line favorite to win tonight at home. That makes Pittsburgh a +106 money line underdog to pull off the upset. As for the total, the number hit the board at 8.5 but has been bet up to 9.

The Pitching Matchup: Jameson Taillon (PIT) vs. Adam Wainwright (STL)

Taillon is 3-2 on the year and currently owns a 3.38 ERA and 1.39 WHIP. The 25-year-old allowed four runs on eight hits in his last outing, a 7-1 loss to the Cubs in Pittsburgh. In his previous outing, however, Taillon pitched five innings of shutout ball against the Rockies in his return from testicular cancer surgery.

On the other side, Wainwright is 7-5 but owns a 5.75 ERA and 1.64 WHIP. He was rocked in his last start, which came last Saturday in Baltimore. The Orioles tagged him for nine runs on seven hits, took him deep three times and struck out only once against him. The aging veteran simply isn’t missing many bats at the moment.

Our Prediction

The over is 11-3-3 in Wainwright’s last 17 home starts against the Pirates. It is also 18-6-5 in Wainwright’s last 29 starts versus Pittsburgh.

Meanwhile, in Taillon’s last five starts overall, the over is 3-1-1. In his last 11 outings coming off four days of rest, the over is 7-3-1. Also, in the Pirates’ last 16 games coming off a loss, the over has cashed in 11 of those 16 games.

On the other side, the over has hit in four of the Cardinals’ last five home games. It is also 7-2 in their last nine games overall and has cashed in five of their last seven games against divisional rivals. In Wainwright’s last 12 games following a team loss in their previous game, the over is 11-1.
