MLB Predictions: Will Padres pull off upset vs. Tigers? 6/23/17

Angels vs Padres

Will the Padres upset the Tigers tonight when the two teams square off at 10:10PM ET?

The Odds: Tigers vs. Padres, 10:10PM ET, Petco Park

According to oddsmakers, Detroit is a -140 money line favorite to knock off San Diego, who has odds of +120 to pull off the upset at home. With Michael Fulmer set to face Luis Perdomo in the pitching matchup, the over/under currently sits at 7.5 runs.

The Pitching Matchup: Michael Fulmer (DET) vs. Luis Perdomo (SD)

Fulmer enters play tonight with a 6-5 record, a 3.45 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP. He’s lost his last two decisions, an 11-4 loss to the Angels at home and a 3-2 defeat versus the Rays, which also came at home. Before those two duds, however, Fulmer had pitched at least seven innings in six consecutive starts.

Meanwhile, Perdomo is 1-4 on the year, owns a 4.97 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP. He pitched six innings of two-run ball in a 2-1 loss to the Brewers in his last outing. In that game, he allowed two home runs, but those were the only two runs he allowed while scattering eight hits. Perdomo also struck out four and walked two.

Our Prediction

The Tigers are scuffling. They’ve lost six straight overall and four straight on the road. They’re also 2-5 in their last seven games versus National League West competition. Finally, Detroit has dropped nine of its last 12 road games versus a right-handed starter.

On the other side, the Padres have won nine of their last 13 home games. They’re also 4-1 in their last five games versus an opponent that allows five runs or more in their previous game. Given the Tigers’ struggles, the Padres are worth a roll of the dice.

Friday MLB Prediction: San Diego Padres +120
