Washington, meanwhile, is coming off a win in St. Louis on Sunday night. The Nationals are playing .500 ball over their last 10 games but are 48-34 on the year and 22-17 at home. The win on Sunday night snapped a three-game losing streak for the Nats.
According to oddsmakers, Washington is a -180 money line favorite to win tonight’s game. That makes New York a +160 money line underdog. The total, meanwhile, is sitting at 8.5 runs.
The Pitching Matchup: Steven Matz (NYM) vs. Stephen Strasburgh (WAS)
Matz is coming off an excellent outing against the Marlins in Miami. He threw seven shutout innings while scattering six hits. The 26-year-old struck out four and walked one while improving to 2-1 on the year. He’ll carry a 2.67 ERA and 1.07 WHIP into tonight’s game.
As for Strasburg, he improved to 9-2 on the season after throwing seven innings against the Cubs in an 8-4 win. He allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits while striking out a whopping 13 batters. It was the first time in four starts that Strasburg completed six innings. Strasburg owns a 3.51 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP.
