MLB Predictions: Will Jacob deGrom lead Mets to win vs. Mariners? 7/29/17

Astros vs Mariners

Will Jacob deGrom lead the Mets to victory over the Mariners on Saturday afternoon?

The Matchup: Mets vs. Mariners, 4:10PM ET, Safeco Field

New York enters play this afternoon having won six of its last 10 games. That said, the Mets are just 47-53 on the year and 22-25 on the road in 2017.

On the other side, Seattle has split over its last 10 games. The Mariners are one game under .500 at 51-52 but own a winning home record at 30-26.

According to oddsmakers, the Mets are -145 money line favorites to knock off the Mariners tonight. That makes Seattle a +120 money line underdog to pull off the upset. The total, meanwhile, sits at 9 runs.

The Pitching Matchup: Jacob deGrom (NYM) vs. Yovani Gallardo (SEA)

deGrom hasn’t lost since June 6. In his latest outing, a 5-3 win over the Padres in San Diego, he pitched eight innings of two-run ball, allowing five hits and striking out eight. deGrom is now 12-3 on the year and owns a 3.30 ERA.

As for Gallardo, he picked up a no-decision in his last outing, a 6-4 loss to the Yankees in Seattle. He pitched five innings, allowed three runs on five hits, struck out five and walked three. Gallardo has surrendered three home runs as his ERA jumped to 5.58.

Our Prediction

The Mets have won four of their last five games against the Mariners, who have not been a good play of late. Seattle has dropped 14 of its last 19 games at home and is winless in four straight interleague games. The Mariners are also 2-5 in Gallardo’s last seven starts and 2-6 in his last eight home outings.

On the other side, the Mets have won 13 of deGrom’s last 16 starts and are 4-1 in his last five road outings. He should pitch well again today.

Saturday MLB Prediction: New York Mets -145
