MLB Prediction: Can the Twins upset the Red Sox in Boston? 6/26/17
Can the Minnesota Twins stay hot and pick up a road win over the Boston Red Sox tonight at 7:10PM ET? Here’s our MLB Prediction for tonight’s big AL clash.
THE ODDS
According to the latest oddsmakers, the Red Sox are the clear favorite at home, as they are getting odds of -210 to win, while the Twins are listed with odds of +190 to prevail. The over/under total for the game is listed at 8.5 runs. Boston won two of three meetings with the Twins in Minnesota earlier this season.
PITCHING MATCHUP
The pitching matchup today has Jose Berrios (7-1, 2.67 ERA) on the mound for the Twins to face Chris Sale (9-3, 2.85) of the Red Sox.
Sale has been racking up the strikeouts this year, tallying 146 over 107.1 innings of work. He has allowed 34 earned runs and 19 walks with a 0.90 WHIP. Berrios has started eight games and won seven of them. He has held his last four opponents to two runs. Over 54 innings of work he has 53 strikeouts with 15 walks and a 0.91 WHIP.
TWINS
The Twins are coming off a three-game sweep of the Indians in Cleveland. They have now won five of their last six games to get to first in the AL Central. Minnesota is now 39-34 overall and 23-9 on the road. Minnesota is putting up 4.63 runs per game while allowing 5.15.
The Twins are being led by Miguel Sano, who has 18 home runs and 52 RBI. Brian Dozier is adding 13 home runs and 35 RBI.
RED SOX
Boston dropped two of three at home to the Angels to fall to 41-34 on the season and 22-13 at home. The Red Sox are putting up 4.67 runs per game while allowing 4.27.
Boston is being led by Xander Bogaerts, who has 20 doubles with 34 RBI and a .319 average. Mookie Betts is adding 12 home runs, 25 doubles and 40 RBI.
MLB PREDICTION
I understand that Sale is starting, so the Sox are the big favorite, but oddsmakers aren’t giving Berrios much credit. He has put up incredible numbers over eight starts. Sale has actually allowed at least three run in five of his last six outings as well. He is getting the strikeouts, but still allowing runs.
Berrios has held his last four to two runs. Given the odds being so lofty, I think it’s worth rolling the dice on the Twins to stay hot. They have a lot of momentum right now and will be eager to pull off another upset.
MLB Prediction: Minnesota Twins +190
