MLB Predictions: Will Rockies vs. Giants be low-scoring? 6/26/17
Will tonight’s National League West match up between the Colorado Rockies and San Francisco Giants be low-scoring?
The Odds: Rockies vs. Giants, 10:08PM ET, AT&T Park
Colorado enters play tonight with a 47-31 record overall and a 25-16 mark on the road. While the club is 5-5 over its last 10 games, those five wins came directly before the Rockies’ five-game losing streak. Colorado dropped all three games in Los Angeles over the weekend, with the Dodgers erasing an early 5-0 hole to beat the Rockies 12-6 on Sunday.
San Francisco, meanwhile, is an utter mess. The Giants are 27-51 on the year and a dismal 14-21 at home this season. They’ve dropped five straight games to fall to 1-9 over their last 10 games. 2017 has certainly turned into a lost season in San Francisco.
According to oddsmakers, the Giants are -130 money line favorites to beat the Rockies tonight. That makes Colorado a +120 money line underdog. As for the total, the number sits at 7.5 runs, down a full run from the opening number of 8.5.
The Pitching Matchup: German Marquez (COL) vs. Jeff Samardzija (SFG)
Marquez is 5-3 on the year and owns a 3.92 ERA. He’s coming off a no-decision versus the Diamondbacks in which he allowed one run on four hits over six innings. He struck out three and walked two batters in that outing.
As for Samardzija, he owns a 2-9 record and a 4.74 ERA. He pitched okay in his recent outing, allowing three runs on six hits over seven innings versus the Braves in Atlanta. He struck out eight in that game and did not walk a batter, but he was hurt by two home runs in 5-3 Giants’ loss.
Our Prediction
The under is 6-1 in Samardzija’s last seven starts versus the Rockies. It is also 10-2-1 in his last 13 home starts and is 7-3 in Marquez’s last 10 outings.
Monday MLB Prediction: Rockies/Giants under 7.5
