Public Betting Trends

Oddsmakers from online sportsbooks currently list the Dodgers as a -160 favorite. As of this writing, 76% of the betting tickets wagered at online sportsbooks are on the Dodgers to beat the Padres on the moneyline.

Dodgers’ Hill to make scheduled start on Tuesday

Rich Hill (neck) is expected to make his next scheduled start Tuesday. Hill left Wednesday’s start against the Pirates due to neck tightness, but he told reporters Saturday that he’s improved and expects to go Tuesday. The southpaw’s health has always been touch and go, so owners may want to check in before Tuesday just to be sure, but it appears he dodged any major bullets this time.

Padres’ Lauer limits Diamondbacks to one run

Eric Lauer allowed one run on seven hits over five-plus innings in Thursday’s win over the Diamondbacks. Jake Lamb knocked Lauer for an RBI single in the second inning, but that was it in terms of run-scoring action on his watch. Padres skipper Andy Skipper gave the 23-year-old southpaw a fair bit of leash to start the sixth inning, but he finally trotted out to the mound to relieve Lauer from duty after his young starter opened the frame surrendering a double to A.J. Pollock and issuing a walk to Steven Souza.

He struck out two and walked two on the evening. While Lauer is still saddled with a bloated 4.84 ERA and 1.76 WHIP in 14 starts, he’s now allowed two or fewer runs in four of his last five outings. He’ll try to keep the good times rolling in a home date with the Dodgers when he next toes the rubber.

MLB Betting Trends

Los Angeles

The Dodgers are 4-1 in Hill’s last five starts versus the Padres.

San Diego

The Padres are just 17-37 in their last 54 games versus the Dodgers.

Prediction:

The under is 4-1 in Hill’s last five starts versus the Padres and I expect it to cash again tonight. In the Dodgers’ last nine road games, the under is 7-2. In their last six divisional games, the under is also 5-1. On the other side, the under is 17-8-1 in the Padres’ last 26 games overall and is 18-7 in Victor Carapazza’s last 25 games behind home plate.

The Pick: Dodgers/Padres under 8
