Georgia vs. Florida College Football Predictions Against Spread 10/28/17
“The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party” takes place today at 3:30PM ET in Jacksonville. Will Georgia cover as a double-digit favorite versus Florida?
The Odds: Georgia vs. Florida, 3:30PM ET, Jacksonville
According to oddsmakers, the Bulldogs are now 12.5-point favorites to beat the Gators. Georgia opened as a 14-point favorite but the line was bet down. As for the total, the number hit the board at 47 but was bet down to 43.5.
The Bulldogs enter play with a perfect 7-0 record and a 5-2 mark against the spread. On the other side, the Gators are 3-3 straight up but just 2-4 at the betting window.
Georgia Bulldogs
Freshman quarterback Jake Fromm completed 18-of-26 passes for 326 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in last Saturday’s 53-28 win over Missouri. The Bulldogs have largely kept Fromm from having to handle an extensive amount of work in the passing game — they haven’t needed it much — but he was unleashed on Saturday (albeit against Missouri’s awful defensive unit).
With his 326 yards passing, Fromm secured the first 300-yard passing performance of his young career. He’s now thrown for 1,162 yards with a 12/3 TD/INT ratio in seven games. We don’t expect Georgia’s offense to suddenly morph into a heavy passing attack, but Fromm has more than impressed when asked to since taking over for an injured Jacob Eason at the beginning of the season.
Florida Gators
Head coach Jim McElwain indicated that sophomore WR Tyrie Cleveland (ankle) is probable for Saturday’s game against Georgia.
“Ultimately we’ve got to wait for the trainer and all that come game time, which is why, I don’t know, what would that be? Probable,” McElwain said. It’s not the most definitive of declarations, but looking past McElwain’s comments, Cleveland has been able to practice this week and was listed as a starter on the Gators’ unofficial depth chart for Saturday.
The sophomore wideout has benefited from having a bye week to rest up. The 6-foot-3, 190-pounder is working to a 15-326-2 receiving line in five games this year. His average reception mark of 21.7 yards ranks as ninth best in the country.
Our Prediction
The Bulldogs are 0-4 against the spread in the last four meetings between these two teams. The Gators have only lost one time in this series by double-digits and I don’t expect them to do so today. Georgia has a difficult time with Florida and despite featuring its best team in 3-4 years, I’ll take the underdog in this huge rivalry.
