Tigers’ Liriano allows four runs in loss to Cubs

Francisco Liriano surrendered four earned runs in 5 1/3 innings during an interleague loss to the Cubs on Wednesday. The veteran left-hander skated through the first four innings unscathed before faltering. He yielded seven hits and two walks while fanning three in the ballgame. The biggest knock was a two-run homer by David Bote in the fifth inning. He falls to 3-9 with a 4.82 ERA and equally uninspiring 1.52 WHIP through 20 starts and one relief appearance. He has an unhealthy 80:60 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 102 2/3 innings. He is best avoided in fantasy leagues, especially considering the Tigers’ weak offense rarely gives him much run support to work with.

Yankees’ Happ strikes out nine in win over Orioles

J.A. Happ delivered another strong performance in Saturday’s victory over the Orioles, racking up nine strikeouts over six innings of two-run baseball. The left-hander scattered five hits and a walk in the contest. The only blemish on his day was a two-run single off the bat of Renato Nunez in the second inning. Happ is now a perfect 5-0 in his first five starts with the Yankees, posting a 2.37 ERA and 32/8 K/BB ratio over 30 1/3 innings.
