College Football: BYU vs. UNLV Predictions Against the Spread 11/10/17

BYU Cougars

Will BYU cover the spread as a small underdog tonight when it takes on UNLV at 10:30 p.m. ET?

The Odds: BYU (2-8) at UNLV (4-5), 10:30 p.m. ET, Friday

According to oddsmakers, the Cougars are now only 1-point underdogs versus the Rebels. BYU opened as a 5-point underdog but the line has dropped like a rock as we get closer to kickoff. The total, meanwhile, is sitting at 49 points after hitting the board at 50.

The Cougars enter play with a 2-8 record and are winless at 0-4 on the road this season. From a betting standpoint, BYU is just 2-8 against the spread in its 10 games this season. On the other side, UNLV is 4-5 overall and 6-3 at the betting window, although the Rebels are just 2-3 both SU and ATS at home.

BYU Cougars

From Rotoworld: BYU junior QB Tanner Mangum will undergo surgery to repair an Achilles injury and is expected to miss the remainder of the season.   Mangum dealt with an ankle injury which forced him to miss time earlier in the season, but managed to return from that previous concern.

This new injury — sustained in Saturday’s loss to Fresno State — will put him down for the count. Cougars HC Kalani Sitake said on Monday that there will now be an open competition to start between sophomore Beau Hoge, freshman Joe Critchlow and freshman Kody Wilstead.

Mangum had thrown for 1,540 yards with an 8/9 TD/INT ratio prior to his being lost for the campaign. It ended as a disappointing season for the junior, who excelled when thrust into action for an injured Taysom Hill back in 2015 but could find nothing resembling those good vibes this time around.

UNLV Rebels

UNLV HC Tony Sanchez said “don’t be surprised” if redshirt freshman QB Armani Rogers (concussion) plays against BYU on Friday.

Rogers injured his head against Utah State in mid-October and subsequently sat out an October 28th contest versus Fresno State. He returned to play to a minimal degree in Saturday’s win over Hawaii, attempting five passes for 37 yards. Johnny Stanton started that contest and would start on Friday if Rogers is limited or can’t play. Both quarterbacks could potentially see the field in the game.

Our Prediction

The road team has covered in seven of the last 10 meetings between these two teams. The Cougars, meanwhile, have covered in seven of their last 10 games against losing teams. They’re also 6-1 at the betting window in their last seven games played in November.

Friday College Football Prediction: BYU Cougars +1
