Can Giants manage to win two in a row vs. Reds? MLB Predictions 5/13/17
The Giants haven’t won two games in a row since mid-April. Following their 17-inning marathon win last night over the Reds, can they win two in a row today?
The Odds
The Giants are -138 to win again today at home versus the Reds. According to oddsmakers, that makes Cincinnati a +128 money line underdog to pull off the upset.
The over/under, meanwhile, is sitting at 8.5 runs with Lisalverto Bonilla set to face Matt Moore in the pitching matchup. The total opened at 8 runs before climbing a half-run to 8.5.
Reds remain hot
Despite their loss last night, the Reds are 7-2 in their last nine games overall and have won seven of their last nine games when they play the third game of a series. They’re also 63-29 in their last 92 games when they play a team with a winning percentage below .400.
Where they have struggled, however, is on the road. They’re just 2-5 in their last nine games away from Cincinnati. The Reds are also 1-4 in their last five road games versus a team with a losing home record.
Giants struggling to win with Moore on the hill
They Giants are winless at 0-5 in Moore’s last five starts. They’re also 1-4 in his last five outings when he faces a team with a winning record. San Francisco has dropped six of its last eight games overall as well.
As previously noted, the Giants have struggled to win games coming off wins. They’ve only won back-to-back games once in 2017, which came April 9-10. They’re 15-37 in their last 52 games following a victory.
MLB Prediction
The Reds are 5-1 in their last six games versus the Giants and 13-4 in their last 17 games in San Francisco. Cincinnati has also won four of their last five games versus National League West competition. In the last nine times they’ve played the third game of a series, they’re 7-2.
On the other side, the Giants are 3-7 in their last 10 games when their opponent scores two runs or less in its previous game. They’re also just 2-5 in their last seven home games versus a right-handed starter. Given San Francisco’s struggles, Cincinnati is a nice underdog play today.
