MLB Predictions: Will White Sox vs. Twins fall under total? 6/22/17
Will the White Sox and Twins play under the total today for bettors when the American League Central rivals wrap up their series at 1:10PM ET?
The Odds: White Sox vs. Twins, 1:10PM ET, Target Field
According to oddsmakers, Chicago enters play this afternoon as a -120 money line favorite. That makes Minnesota a slight underdog at +110. As for the betting total, the number hit the board at 10 and that’s where it currently sits.
The Pitching Matchup: Jose Quintana (CHW) vs. Nik Turley (MIN)
Quintana has had a rough go of it this season but he finally looked like himself in his previous outing. Pitching seven strong innings of two-run ball, Quintana picked up his first win since May 2 against the Blue Jays. He allowed two runs on five hits while striking out five and walking two in the White Sox’ 11-4 victory. It was the first time since May 19 that he pitched into the seventh inning. The veteran is now 3-8 on the year, with a 5.07 ERA and 1.37 WHIP.
Meanwhile, the Twins will counter with Turley, who is 0-1 with a 12.46 ERA on the season. Of course, he’s only made two starts this season so the sample size is small. In those two starts, he allowed 12 runs on 17 hits over just 8 2/3 innings of work. He’s also struck out seven and walked four. Small sample or not, Turley owns an embarrassing 2.42 WHIP on the year.
Our Prediction
Despite Turley’s 8 2/3 innings of shoddy work, I like the under in this matchup. In the last five meetings between these two teams in Minnesota, the under has cashed four times. In Quintana’s last seven road starts against the Twins, the under is 6-1. In his last seven outings overall versus Minnesota, the under is also 6-1.
Furthermore, the under is 6-2 in the Twins’ last eight games overall and has cashed in five of their last six games coming off a win. On the other side, the under is 20-8 in Quintana’s last 28 road starts and has hit in nine of his last 13 outings overall.
Thursday MLB Prediction: White Sox/Twins under 10
