Red Sox vs Blue Jays

Will tonight’s American League East matchup between the Red Sox and Yankees fall under the betting total?

The Odds: Red Sox vs. Yankees, 7:05PM ET, Yankee Stadium

According to oddsmakers, the Yankees are -119 money line favorites to win tonight. That makes the Red Sox a +109 money line underdog to pull off the upset. As for the total, the number hit the board at 8.5 and that’s where it currently sits.

Pitching Matchup: Drew Pomeranz (Red Sox) vs. Masahio Tanaka (Yankees)

In his last start, Pomeranz yielded one run in seven innings versus the White Sox. He struck out eight batters over those seven innings in what was his longest outing of the season. Pomeranz is now 5-3 with a 4.24 ERA and a 64/17 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 51 innings.

As for Tanaka, he was crushed by the Orioles last Wednesday. He allowed seven runs in 5 2/3 innings and was charged with the loss. Tanaka gave up four runs in the third inning and three more on a home run by Adam Jones in the fourth inning. It was the fourth time this season that Tanaka gave up six or more runs in a single game. He’s now 5-5 with a horrendous 6.34 ERA in 11 starts.

Our Prediction

The under has cashed in all four of the last four meetings between these two teams. In the last seven meetings in New York, the under is 6-1.

Meanwhile, the under has cashed in eight of Boston’s last 11 games overall and 5-2 in the club’s last seven games coming off a win. In Pomeranz’s last 11 road starts, the under is also 9-2. The under is 14-6-2 in Pomeranz’s last 22 starts overall as well.

On the other side, the under is 5-1 in the Yankees’ last six home games and is 4-0 in their last four home games versus a left-handed starter. The under is also 5-2 in the Yankees’ last seven games when they play the first game of a series.

Tuesday MLB Prediction: Red Sox/Yankees under 8.5
