PITCHING MATCHUP
The pitching matchup tonight has Felix Hernandez (5-3, 4.20 ERA) on the mound for Seattle to face Luis Severino (5-4, 3.40) of the Yankees. Severino has been somewhat hot-and-cold this season. He allowed just one run over 7 innings against the Red Sox in his last start, but had allowed nine runs over his previous two starts. On the season he has 130 strikeouts with only 29 walks and a 1.10 WHIP. After a poor start back from his injury, Hernandez has started to settle in. He has allowed just one earned run over his last two starts. On the season, he has 51 strikeouts with 14 walks and a 1.44 WHIP.
YANKEES
New York has been struggling as of late, losing two of three to the Twins and six of their last 10 overall. The Yankees are now 48-45 overall and 22-28 on the road. New York is putting up 5.34 runs per game this season while allowing 4.31 per game. The Yankees have been led by Aaron Judge, who has 30 home runs with 67 RBI and a .312 average. The Yankees just acquired Todd Frazier from the White Sox as well. He has 16 home runs and 44 RBI this season for Chicago.
MARINERS
Seattle comes into this series somewhat hot, as the Mariners just took a series from the Astros and have won six of their last seven overall. Seattle is now 48-48 overall and 27-22 at home. The Mariners are scoring 4.80 runs per game while allowing 4.79 per contest. Nelson Cruz is leading Seattle with 20 home runs and 74 RBI while Robinson Cano has 18 home runs with 64 RBI.
MLB PREDICTIONS
I would normally feel good about the Yankees here, but these two teams are on the opposite ends of the spectrum over the last week. Seattle is one of the hottest teams in baseball while the Yankees are struggling. Hernandez seems to be getting back on track, which is big for Seattle. I like what Severino has done this season, but he is facing a surging team on the road in the West Coast. I like the Mariners to squeak this one out.
