MLB Prediction: Will the Yankees and Astros get to 8 runs? 6/30/17

MLB Predictions

Will the Houston Astros have any trouble scoring runs at home when they welcome in the New York Yankees tonight at 8:10PM ET? Here’s our MLB Prediction for tonight’s series opener.

THE ODDS

According to the latest oddsmakers, the Astros are the clear favorite at home tonight, as they are getting odds of -180 to win, while the Yankees are getting a money line of +165 to prevail. The over/under total for the game has been set at just 7.5 runs. These two played four games in New York in May and Houston won three of the four games while they split the over/under.

PITCHING MATCHUP

The pitching matchup tonight has Michael Pineda (7-4, 4.12 ERA) on the mound for the Yankees to face Lance McCullers Jr. (7-1, 2.53) of the Astros. Pineda is coming off a 7-run performance over just four innings against the Rangers. He has now allowed 40 earned runs over 87.1 innings. He has 88 strikeouts with 20 walks and a 1.23 WHIP on the season. McCullers has been solid all season and has won his last five decisions. He has given up 23 earned runs over 81.2 innings. He has 97 strikeouts with 23 walks and a 1.04 WHIP.

YANKEES

The Yankees are coming off a four-game split with the White Sox in Chicago but they have lost four of their last six games. New York is 42-35 overall, 18-22 on the road and 44-33 with the over. New York is putting up 5.61 runs per game while allowing 4.27 per contest. Aaron Judge id leading the Yankees with a .331 average, 27 home runs and 62 RBI. Starlin Castro is adding 12 home runs and 45 RBI.

ASTROS

Houston took two of three from Oakland at home and the Astros have won eight of their last 10 games. Houston is 54-26 overall, 25-17 at home and 39-35 with the over. Houston is scoring 5.56 runs per game while allowing 4.00 per contest. George Springer is leading the team with 24 home runs and 52 RBI while Jose Altuve has 11 home runs, 23 doubles, 38 RBI and 14 stolen bases.

MLB PREDICTION

McCullers has been great on the mound, allowing few runs this year. However, the total is set too low for a game with two teams of this hitting ability. McCullers hasn’t faced many lineups like this and I think the Yankees will find a way to score a few runs. Houston should also do its part against Pineda, who is 11-4 with the over in his 15 starts. Look for these two to get to 8 runs.

MLB Prediction: Yankees/Astros Over 7.5
