MLB Prediction: Will the Astros hold off the Red Sox? 6/16/17
Will the Houston Astros be able to defend their home field when they host the Boston Red Sox tonight at 8:10PM ET? Here’s our MLB Prediction for this big American League contest.
THE ODDS
According to the latest oddsmakers, this game is considered even, as both the Astros and Red Sox are listed with a money line of -110 to win. The over/under total for the game has been set at 9 runs. These two teams have yet to meet this season.
PITCHING MATCHUP
The pitching matchup tonight has Mike Fiers (4-2, 4.29 ERA) taking the mound for Houston to face Drew Pomeranz (6-4, 4.48) of the Red Sox.
Fiers is coming off a 7.1-inning outing where he didn’t allow an earned run. He has dropped his ERA by a run over his last four starts. Fiers has 58 strikeouts with 23 walks this season and a 1.40 WHIP. Pomeranz is coming off a poor outing against the Tigers last weekend, allowing six runs in 4.1 innings. He has 73 strikeouts and 21 walks with a 1.43 WHIP.
RED SOX
Boston is coming off a two-game split at Philadelphia. The Sox have won five of their last seven games. Boston is 37-29 overall and 16-18 on the road. The Sox are putting up 4.74 runs per game while allowing 4.24 per game. Boston is being led by Mookie Betts, who has 11 home runs, 23 doubles and 37 RBI. Mitch Moreland is adding 18 doubles, nine home runs and 36 RBI.
ASTROS
Houston avoided being swept by the Rangers on Wednesday with a 13-2 win. They are still just 2-4 in their last six at home. The Astros are 45-22 overall and 22-14 at home. They are averaging 5.46 runs per game while allowing 3.94 per contest. George Springer has 18 home runs with 43 RBI this season while Carlos Correa has 12 home runs and 42 RBI. Jose Altuve is hitting .320 with 17 doubles and 11 stolen bases.
MLB PREDICTION
Houston hasn’t been doing that well over the last week, but thankfully for them they face one of Boston’s struggling arms in Pomeranz. He is coming off one of his worst outings against a lineup similar to Houston’s. Fiers has been pitching well over recent starts and he should be comfortable at home against Boston. I don’t think the Sox have the lineup to compete with Houston tonight.
MLB Prediction: Houston Astros -110
