ESPN Sunday Night Baseball Predictions: Cardinals vs. Cubs 6/4/17
Will tonight’s Cardinals and Cubs matchup fall under the betting total when the rivals meet for ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball?
The Odds: Cardinals vs. Cubs, 7:35PM ET, Wrigley Field
According to oddsmakers, the Cardinals are +160 money line underdogs to win tonight in Chicago. That makes the Cubs -170 money line favorites at home. As for the total, the number hit the board at 8.5 and that’s where it currently sits.
The Pitching Matchup: Michael Wacha (STL) vs. Kyle Hendricks (Cubs)
Wacha is coming off back-to-back poor outings versus the Dodgers. He was charged with four runs (three earned) over just three innings on Tuesday night. The right-hander held the Dodgers off the scoreboard for the first two innings but had to pitch out of jams to do so. Wacha then allowed four runs in the third inning on three hits, two walks and an error.
Hendricks is coming off a poor outing himself. He surrendered five earned runs over five innings in a loss to the Padres on Monday. Hendricks was in the midst of an excellent May, but he struggled against a weak-hitting San Diego lineup. The starter allowed four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning when Hunter Renfroe hit a grand slam. Then he allowed one more run in the bottom of the fifth as his ERA climbed from 3.25 to 3.75.
Our Prediction
The Cardinals’ bats continue to be quiet. The under is 4-0 in the club’s last four games overall and is 4-1 in their last five road games. In the Cards’ last seven games coming off a loss, the under is 6-1.
The under is a perfect 5-0 in the Cubs’ last five games overall and is 8-0 in their last eight games versus a right-handed starter. The under has also cashed in five of Hendricks’ last seven starts and is 10-4-1 in his last 15 home outings.
Sunday Prediction: Cardinals/Cubs under 8.5
