2017 Triple Crown: Who will win the Preakness Stakes? 5/20/17

Preakness Stakes

Will somebody upset Always Dreaming in the 2017 Preakness Stakes? Here are our picks for Saturday’s second leg of the triple crown.

The Odds

According to oddsmakers, Always Dreaming is the 4/5 favorite to win the Preakness Stakes. Classic Empire has the next-best odds at 3/1 and then there is a steep drop off. Lookin At Lee is 10/1, Cloud Computing is 12/1, while Gunnevera and Conquest Mo Money are 15/1, respectively.

Continuing with the odds, Hence is 20/1 to win tonight’s Preakness Stakes. The long shots include Multiplier, Term of Art and Senior Investment at 30/1, respectively.

To Win: Always Dreaming

There is no other contender in this year’s field that has the speed and closing ability of Always Dreaming. Some questioned his experience heading into the Kentucky Derby and he proved doubters wrong with a visually impressive run. He was equally as impressive in the Florida Derby, his final prep for Churchill Downs. Fatigue is always a concern for those that ran in the Kentucky Derby, but Always Dreaming emerged from Churchill Downs healthy.

To Place: Classic Empire

If it weren’t for a bad trip, Classic Empire may have finished second in the Kentucky Derby. He won’t have to worry about a crowded field tonight like he did at Churchill Downs two weeks ago and thus, his speed should be on display. This is the only true contender for Classic Empire if there’s no chaos at the start.

To Show: Lookin At Lee

The Kentucky Derby runner-up is consistent. Yes, he got a dream scenario by avoiding the mud and hugging the rail at Churchill Downs, but that doesn’t take away from his talent. In 10 of his career starts, Lookin At Lee has finished in the money in all but three races. He finished third in the Arkansas Derby behind Classic Empire and second behind Always Dreaming at Churchill Downs. He’ll be in the mix again tonight.
