2017 Preakness Stakes Odds: Always Dreaming a clear favorite 5/18/17

Belmont Stakes

We’re just days away from the 142nd running of the Preakness Stakes. Which contender is favored to win the second leg of the American Triple Crown? Here is a look at the odds.

The Favorite

According to oddsmakers, Always Dreaming is the clear favorite to win Saturday’s Preakness Stakes. At 4/5 odds, the Kentucky Derby winner is a heavy favorite to complete the second leg of the triple crown. Always Dreaming has won four straight starts, including two weeks ago at Churchill Downs, and early in April at the Grade 1 Florida Derby.

The Contender

The contender, meanwhile, is Classic Empire, who has the next-best odds to win the Preakness Stakes at 9/4. At one point leading up to the Kentucky Derby, Classic Empire was the favorite. He finished fourth in that race behind Always Dreaming, Lookin At Lee and Battle of Midway. With Irish War Cry not running this weekend, Classic Empire will give Always Dreaming his biggest test.

The Rest of the Field

As for the rest of the field, Conquest Mo Money, who did not run in the Kentucky Derby, is 15/2 to win the Preakness Stakes. Cloud Computing, meanwhile, is 10/1, follwed by Gunnevera and Lookin At Lee at 12/1, respectively. Lookin At Lee was the runner-up in the Kentucky Derby while Gunnevera finished seventh.

Also, Hence, who finished 11th in the Kentucky Derby, is 20/1, followed by Multiplier at 30/1. Senior Investment is 40/1, while Term of Art has the longest odds in the field at 50/1. Multiplier, Senior Investment and Term of Art did not run at Churchill Downs two weeks ago.

The 2017 Preakness Stakes will be broadcast by NBC starting at 5:00PM ET, although the race itself won’t start until closer to 6:45PM ET. The 142nd running of the Preakness Stakes will take place at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland.
