Is the total set too high in Blue Jays vs. St. Louis Cardinals matchup? 4/25/17

Pirates vs Cardinals

Is the total set too high in tonight’s Toronto Blue Jays and St. Louis Cardinals matchup in St. Louis at 8:15PM ET?

The Odds

The Cardinals are -140 money line favorites versus the Blue Jays, who have odds of +120 tonight. With Marco Estrada set to oppose Michael Wacha in the pitching matchup, the over/under sits at 7.5 runs. The total hit the board at 8, but has already been bet down a half-point.

Estrada pitching well for struggling Blue Jays

The Blue Jays stumbled out of the gates this year but Estrada has done everything to win games. In four outings, Estrada has three quality starts but zero wins to show for his efforts. He owns a 2.62 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP over 24 combined innings. The right-hander allowed just three hits over six scoreless innings on Thursday versus the Red Sox.

Wacha has built off successful spring for St. Louis Cardinals

Wacha was solid in spring training after another injury-riddled season in 2016. He allowed a single run on four hits while striking out three over 6 2/3 innings on Wednesday versus the Pirates. In three games and 18 2/3 innings of work, Wacha owns a 2.41 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP. He’s been fantastic for a St. Louis rotation that has been solid to start the season.

MLB Predictions

The under has cashed in all four of the last four meetings between these two teams. It is also 15-5-2 in the Cardinals’ last 22 home games and is 24-11-4 in the Cardinals’ last 39 interleague games. On the other side, the under is 35-14-3 in the Blue Jays’ last 52 games and is 15-5-3 in their last 23 road games.

With Estrada on the mound, the under is 5-1 in the Blue Jays’ last six games and is 19-7-1 in his last 27 outings coming off four days of rest. Given the pitching matchup, this contest tonight should be a low-scoring affair for bettors.
