Public Betting Information
The Red Sox opened as -188 money line favorites but their odds dropped to -175. As for the Blue Jays, they’re +157 money line underdogs to pull off the upset today. The total, meanwhile, dropped to 9.5 after hitting the board at 10. As of this writing, 71% of betting tickets wagered at online sports books are on the Red Sox to win.
Blue Jays’ Gaviglio logs another quality start in win
Sam Gaviglio logged a quality start in Friday’s victory over the Phillies, surrendering three runs on three hits in six innings of work. The right-hander racked up six strikeouts on the night and only surrendered two free passes. All of the damage against him came via the long ball, with opposing pitcher Zach Eflin belting a solo homer in the third and Carlos Santana clubbing a two-run shot in the sixth.
Gaviglio has been outstanding this far for the Jays, posting a 2.30 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 18/4 K/BB ratio over 15 2/3 innings. He could be worth a look as a streaming play, even in a difficult matchup against the Red Sox in Boston on Wednesday.
Red Sox’ Rodriguez allows just two runs in win in last start
Eduardo Rodriguez improved to 5-1 after allowing two runs over 5 2/3 innings against the Braves on Friday. Rodriguez gave up six hits and three walks while fanning seven. He ran into some early trouble, but the Braves were only able to cash in with a two-run double from Nick Markakis in the second.
After hitting a bit of a rough patch, the southpaw has allowed three earned runs or fewer in four straight starts, so he’s regaining the trust of fantasy owners. He’ll bring a 4.02 ERA into a start against the Blue Jays.
Betting Trends
Toronto
The Blue Jays are 2-5 in their last seven games played at Fenway Park and are winless in their last four games versus the Red Sox overall.
Boston
The Red Sox have lost four of Rodriguez’s last five home starts versus the Blue Jays.
Our Prediction
This is a great spot for bettors to take the under, which is a perfect 7-0 in Rodriguez’s last seven starts versus the Blue Jays. It is also 4-0 in his last four home outings against Toronto.
MLB Prediction: Blue Jays/Red Sox under 9.5
