Rangers’ gives up six runs in no-decision vs. Angels
Martin Perez surrendered six runs in six innings in a no-decision against the Angels on Saturday. Perez had allowed three earned runs or fewer in four of five starts since coming off the disabled list, but now he’s surrendered 13 runs over his last two starts. With a 6.93 ERA on the year, the southpaw has been far too hittable. He’s a pitcher to avoid in fantasy leagues.
Giants’ Suarez lit up for seven runs in loss to Reds
Andrew Suarez was blasted for seven runs (five earned) over two 2/3 innings in a blowout loss to the Reds on Sunday. Suarez faced the minimum through the first two frames, but the Reds offense erupted for seven runs on seven hits — and a costly fielding error by first baseman Brandon Belt — in the third inning. He struck out three batters and also issued a pair of walks in his shortest outing of his rookie campaign. The 25-year-old southpaw has endured a brutal second-half, posting a dismal 6.82 ERA in six starts since the All-Star break. He’s 4-9 with a 4.68 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 103/31 K/BB ratio in 22 starts this year. He’ll face the Rangers at home in his next start on Friday and needs to string together a few solid outings over the final six weeks to thrust himself back onto mixed league radar screens heading next season.
