Giants’ Holland goes four in no decision vs. Diamondbacks
Derek Holland went four innings and allowed two runs in a no decision against the Diamondbacks on Monday. Holland didn’t give up a run over the first three innings but struggled in the fourth and ended up being pulled after throwing 82 pitches. It lowers the ERA to 4.92 on the season, and he’s struck out 53 hitters in just over 62 innings for the Giants in 2018. Holland’s next scheduled start is Sunday against the Nationals.
Nationals’ Scherzer strikes out 13 Rays while moving to 10-1
Max Scherzer punched out 13 hitters while yielding just two runs over eight innings Tuesday in the Nationals’ 4-2 victory over the Rays. Three of Scherzer’s 13 whiffs came in an immaculate inning in the sixth. The Rays were able to scratch across a pair of runs with two outs in the eighth when Brad Miller doubled, but that’s all they managed. Scherzer didn’t walk anyone on the night.
The double-digit strikeout game was Scherzer’s ninth already this season in 13 tries, and he now boasts an absurd 133/19 K/BB ratio over 87 2/3 innings, along with a 10-1 record. Amazing. Scherzer will go up against the Yankees and Blue Jays on the road next week
MLB Betting Trends
San Francisco
The Giants are now 3-9 in their last 11 road games versus the Nationals.
Washington
The Nationals are a perfect 4-0 in Scherzer’s last four starts versus the Giants.
Prediction:
This has been a high-scoring series but Sunday’s matchup has ‘under’ written all over it for bettors. The under is 20-8-2 in the last 30 meetings between these two teams and is 8-4-2 I the last 14 meetings in Washington. The Giants have been hot but nobody is hitting Scherzer and while Holland hasn’t been great, he has been competitive. I expect both starters to pitch well in a tight, low-scoring contest on Sunday.
The Pick: Giants/Nationals under 7.5
