Giants’ Holland logs quality start vs. Mariners
Derek Holland yielded three hits and two runs (one earned) over six solid innings Wednesday in a no-decision against Seattle. The veteran lefty cashed out with four strikeouts and one walk. Holland got off to a bit of a rocky start, allowing a run in each of his first two innings. One of those runs came on Ryon Healy’s solo blast in the second. Holland settled down after that, however, and held the Mariners scoreless over his final four innings. The 31-year-old only has five wins to his credit this year, though he’s pitched to a serviceable 3.92 ERA across 23 appearances including 19 starts. Holland will be back in action Monday against the Padres, who he has already faced twice this year.
Padres’ Lauer gets roughed up by Mets
Eric Lauer was tagged for six runs in four innings by the Mets in a loss Tuesday. Lauer had a strong six weeks from the beginning of June through his next-to-last start before the break, but he’s given up 11 runs in six innings his last two times out.
MLB Betting Trends
San Francisco
The Giants are 3-8 in their last 11 road games versus a left-handed starter.
San Diego
The Padres are just 3-14 in their last 17 home games.
Prediction:
In the Giants’ last 14 road games, the under hit in 12 contests. The under is also 6-1 in the Giants’ last seven road games versus a left-handed starter and is 13-3 in their last 16 divisional games. This matchup features two light-hitting clubs playing in a pitcher’s park. I won’t over think things tonight.
The Pick: Padres/Giants under 8
