Padres’ Lucchesi sharp over five innings vs. Pirates
Joey Lucchesi allowed just one hit with four walks and five strikeouts over five scoreless innings in a win against the Pirates on Saturday. Lucchesi was dealing with first-pitch strikes to 14 of the 19 batters he faced, tossing strikes on 52 of his 85 pitches. It was his first victory in six starts dating back to April 28, and he is still searching for his first quality start since tying a season high with six innings back on April 15.
Diamondbacks’ Godley squashed by Giants in last start
Zack Godley was tagged for seven earned runs, nine hits and five walks with five strikeouts over just four innings in a loss against the Giants on Sunday. Godley was all over the place with his control, throwing just 50 of his 89 pitches for strikes while hitting a batter and uncorking a wild pitch. The awful outing snapped a personal four-start win streak to the right-hander. He had allowed just eight earned runs over his past 23 1/3 innings during the four-game win streak. Godley will look to start a new win streak next Friday against Tyson Ross and the Padres.
MLB Betting Trends
San Diego
The Padres have dropped 13 of their last 17 games overall.
Arizona
The Diamondbacks have won four of Godley’s last five starts.
Prediction:
Arizona is struggling. The D-Backs are just 1-8 in their last nine home games and are winless in their last four divisional matchups. They’re also 1-4 in their last five games versus a left-handed starter and are 0-6 in their last six home games versus a team with a losing road record. The Padres haven’t played much better but they are coming off a win so I’ll take the plus odds.
