Public Betting Trends

Oddsmakers from online sportsbooks currently list the A’s as a -141 favorite. As of this writing, 74% of the betting tickets wagered at online sportsbooks are on the Twins to beat the Cardinals on the moneyline.

A’s Cahill not quite able to earn quality start vs. Giants

Trevor Cahill yielded one run on two hits over 5 2/3 innings while taking a no-decision in Saturday’s 11-inning win over the Giants. Cahill struck out five and walked three in the outing. He left the contest in line for a victory, but the Giants upended that potential decision with solitary runs scored in the seventh and ninth innings. That latter run tied the game at 3-3 and ultimately pushed it to extra innings.

Cahill will carry a lovely 2.95 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 55/17 K/BB ratio (58 innings) into a road showdown with the Rangers when he next toes the rubber. A strained right Achilles tendon which took him out of action for about a month earlier this summer is cause for his diminished innings total at this juncture.

Rangers’ Colon has everything fall apart for him vs. Indians

Bartolo Colon surrendered five runs on eight hits over 4 2/3 innings in Saturday’s loss to the Indians. Colon was cruising through the first four innings of the game, having surrendered just two hits and no runs heading into the top of the fifth inning. Then everything changed. That fifth started out poorly enough, with Melky Cabrera leading off matters with a double. Yan Gomes followed with an RBI single and then it was off to the races. Francisco Lindor, Michael Brantley and Jose Ramirez would all pick up RBI knocks as the inning progressed, with the final run on Colon’s line coming home courtesy of the bullpen after he had mercifully been relieved of duty with two outs in the fifth.

The wily right-hander still has some tricks up his sleeve, but when those tricks aren’t working, he just doesn’t have the stuff to make up for mistakes at this point in his career. A home start against the A’s shows next on his schedule. He’ll be putting a 4.85 ERA and 1.24 WHIP on the line in that contest.
