NHL Prediction: Will the Penguins and Capitals hit the over? 4/29/17
Will the Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins have a high-scoring game when they meet up tonight at 8PM ET in Game 2 of their series? Here’s our NHL Prediction for the contest.
GAME 2 ODDS
According to the latest oddsmakers, the Capitals are favored at home, as they are getting odds of -145 to win. The Penguins are listed with a money line of +125 to prevail. The over/under total for the game is listed at 5.5 goals.
RECORDS
Pittsburgh took Game 1 of the series on Thursday night, 3-2. The Pens have won three of five meetings this season with Washington and the two have pushed or hit the over in four of the five meetings. Game 1 marked the first time they hit the under this season.
Pittsburgh is now 55-22-11 overall, 21-16-7 on the road and 50-33 with the over. Washington is 59-20-10 overall, 34-8-3 at home and 39-35 with the over.
GAME 1 RECAP
A scoreless first period didn’t do much to help these teams hit the over in Game 1. It wasn’t until the second that the scoring started, with Sidney Crosby scoring twice and Alex Ovechkin scoring once.
Evgeny Kuznetsov evened the game at 2-2 in the third and Nick Bonino got the game-winner with 8 minutes to play. The Penguins got the win despite having just 21 shots. Washington had 35 in the loss but Marc-Andre Fleury made 33 saves.
NHL PREDICTION
These two teams know how to score. They are two of the most-talented attacks in all of hockey. They hit the over three times this season, including an 8-7 game back in January. Game 1 seems like a bit of an anomaly, as the Penguins didn’t get a ton of shots and the Capitals struggled to find the net with their high shot production. I think today returns to form and the two put up a high number. Look for 6-8 goals in this one.
