NHL Prediction: Will the Capitals upset the Penguins in Game 6? 5/8/17

NHL Prediction

Can the Pittsburgh Penguins find a way to eliminate the Washington Capitals when the two collide in Game 6 of their series tonight at 7:30PM ET? Here’s our NHL Prediction for Monday.

GAME 6 ODDS

According to oddsmakers, the Penguins are the slight favorite at home, as they are getting odds of-115 to win. The Capitals have been given a money line of -105 to win tonight. The over/under total is listed at 5.5 goals.

RECORDS

Washington kept its season alive on Saturday when it picked up a 4-2 win at home to force Game 6. The Penguins still hold a 3-2 win in the series. Pittsburgh comes into tonight’s game 57-23-12 overall and 35-6-5 at home. Washington is 61-22-10 overall and 26-13-7 on the road.

GAME 5 RECAP

Facing the brink of elimination and a 2-1 deficit entering the third period of Game 5, the Capitals managed to rally. Nicklas Backstrom tied the game just 2:49 into the period.

Washington then took the lead on an Evgeny Kuznetsov goal five minutes later. Alex Ovechkin finally got another goal in the series, scoring the insurance goal just 27 seconds later. Washington had a 32-22 edge in shots and a 38-15 edge in hits in the win.

NHL PREDICTION

The Capitals looked like the team we have been waiting for in the third period of Saturday’s game. But, can that team show up for three periods tonight? I don’t feel good about those chances. Washington is just 1-7 in their last eight games at Pittsburgh. The home team has won 10 of the last 13 meetings between these two as well.

Pittsburgh has also won 60 of its last 79 home games. I don’t see the Penguins letting this opportunity slip away at home. The Pens don’t want to go to Washington for a Game 7 after a 3-1 lead.

NHL Prediction – Pittsburgh Penguins -115
