NHL Playoffs Prediction: Can the Penguins go up 3-0 on the Capitals? 5/1/17

NHL Predictions

Will the Pittsburgh Penguins put the Washington Capitals on the brink of elimination when they meet in Game 3 of their NHL Playoffs series tonight at 7:30PM ET?

GAME 3 ODDS

According to oddsmakers, the Penguins are favored at home in tonight’s NHL Playoffs contest. Pittsburgh is getting odds of-125 to win, while the Capitals are getting a money line of +105 to prevail. The over/under total for the game is listed at 5.5 goals.

RECORDS

Pittsburgh took a 2-0 lead in the series with a 6-2 win in Game 2 at Washington. The Penguins have now won four of six meetings with the Capitals this season. Pittsburgh comes into today’s game 56-22-11 overall and 34-6-4 at home. Washington is now 59-21-10 overall with a record of 25-12-7 on the road.

GAME 2 RECAP

The Penguins never gave the Capitals much of a chance in Game 2 on Saturday. Pittsburgh had three goals in the second and third periods. Both Phil Kessel and Jake Guentzel scored two times in the win. Kessel has four goals for the postseason while Guentzel now has seven.

Washington pulled Braden Holtby during the game after stopping just 11 of 14 shots he faced. Philipp Grubauer didn’t do any better, stopping only 7 of 9 shots. Marc-Andre Fleury had 34 saves for the Penguins in the win.

NHL PLAYOFFS PREDICTION

The Capitals once again had more shots on goal than Pittsburgh in Game 2, but still lost. Washington had similar games with Toronto in the opening round, but the problem is now they are facing a better team.

The Penguins are making the most of each scoring opportunity and Fleury is playing very well. I don’t think that is going to change in Pittsburgh, where the Penguins won 34 games.
