NFL Season Predictions: Will Bills reach 7 wins in 2017? 8/18/17

Bills

Will the Bills reach seven wins in 2017? Or will it be a long season in Buffalo?

The Odds

According to oddsmakers, the Bills have an over/under of 6.5 for number of wins in 2017. The team is also a long shot to win the Super Bowl at 200/1 and is 100/1 to win the AFC Conference Championship. Finally, the Bills are just 15/1 to win the AFC East Division this season.

Bills Offseason

Buffalo made a pair of moves in free agency to help bolster its secondary. The team signed former Packers safety Micah Hyde to a five-year, $30.5 million contract and also added former Browns defensive back Jordan Poyer on a four-year, $13 million pact. The Bills signed kicker Steven Hauschka, receiver Anquan Boldin, and fullback Patrick DiMarco.

As for the draft, the Bills selected LSU cornerback Tre’Davious White with the 27th overall pick back in April. Zay Jones, a receiver from East Carolina, was one of Buffalo’s two second-round picks. The other was Temple guard Dion Dawkins. The team didn’t have another selection until the fifth round, where it had two. The Bills took Boston College linebacker Matt Milano and Pittsburgh quarterback Nate Peterman with those selections.

Bills Season Prediction

Buffalo’s offense was flying under the radar heading into the preseason but that was before trading Sammy Watkins to the Rams. I get the trade from the standpoint that the Bills weren’t going to bring back Watkins long-term. That said, the trade nevertheless weakens Buffalo’s offense.

The Bills’ schedule is also brutal and their run defense was an issue last season. While I love LeSean McCoy and believe Tyrod Taylor is somewhat underrated, I just don’t think this team has enough overall talent to win seven games in 2017. I’ll take the under for Buffalo this upcoming NFL season.
