Yankees’ German takes loss to Astros in last start
Domingo German yielded four runs (three earned) over 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Astros on Monday. It didn’t look like German was long for this one after he gave up a three-run homer to J.D. Davis in the second inning, so he hung in there nicely under the circumstances. He fanned seven and walked a pair in the loss. All in all, it was an improvement after he was knocked around for six runs in each of his previous two starts. Still, we’d avoid him for mixed league purposes, especially with a start in Baltimore on tap for this weekend.
Tigers’ FIers allows just one run in last start vs. Halos
Mike Fiers held the Angels to just one run in 5 2/3 innings but had to settle for a no-decision on Wednesday. The only damage was a single by Albert Pujols that plated Mike Trout with a run in the third inning. Fiers allowed seven hits in the game but spread them apart to limit the impact. He struck out four and walked one as he fell one out short of a quality start. It’s too bad because the Tigers broke the game open with a five-run outburst in the bottom of the sixth and the win went to reliever Louis Coleman instead. His record holds at 4-3 with a 4.45 ERA after 10 starts.

I see this being a high-scoring game with German not pitching as well late as he was when he made his debut earlier in the season. The over is 5-0-1 in the last six meetings between these two teams in Detroit and 4-0 in the last four meetings overall.
