Mets’ Wheeler strikes out nine in tough loss
Zack Wheeler lost despite holding the Giants to one run in seven innings Friday. Wheeler struck out nine and walked none in taking his first loss since June. He’s now 6-1 with a 1.02 ERA in 53 innings since the All-Star break. It’s likely something of a fluke that he’s given up just one homer in that span, but that he’s walked only 10 could be a real breakthrough. Now he just needs to show he can stay healthy.
Dodgers’ Ryu sharp against Diamondbacks in last start
Hyun-Jin Ryu pitched seven innings of two-run ball Friday against the Diamondbacks. Ryu gave up a two-run homer to Paul Goldschmidt in the first, but everything else went great tonight. He allowed just four hits, walked none and struck out five. He’ll get the Mets next time out.
