Mets’ Matz not sharp in start vs. Yankees
Steven Matz yielded three runs on five hits over six innings while taking a no-decision in Saturday’s loss to the Yankees. The Mets gifted Matz with a 3-0 lead after one inning, but that would slowly slip away as the game progressed. His first mistake came on a home run ball coughed up to Gleyber Torres in the third inning. That cut the advantage to two runs.
A few frames later, it would be Miguel Andujar doing the damage, cracking a two-run homer in the sixth to tie the contest up. Matz ended his evening having struck out six while issuing an uncomfortable four walks.
This was not the sharpest of outings, but Matz probably deserves a mulligan, here. He’s pitched very well since the end of April, having not surrendered more than three runs in any of his last four starts. He’ll put a 3.53 ERA and 1.26 WHIP on the line in a road date with the Diamondbacks next time out.
Diamondbacks’ Corbin allows five runs in loss vs. Pirates
Patrick Corbin allowed five runs in 5 1/3 innings with five strikeouts in a no decision against the Pirates on Monday. Corbin allowed a run in the first that should never have happened — it scored on an error by Paul Goldschmidt — but he cruised through the next three innings. Things fell part in the fifth, as the left-hander struggled to throw strikes and gave up a pair of run-scoring hits.
Corbin has been excellent this year for the most part, but he’s had a few iffy starts like this. You’ll take em if you have him on your redraft roster, and he’ll help you more often than not in DFS. Corbin will take a 3.10 ERA and 110/25 strikeout-to-walk ratio into his next start against the Mets on Saturday.
