NCAAF Predictions: Is Virginia A Trap Game? 10/14/17
Sound the red sirens because we’ve got a possible trap alert this afternoon in Chapel Hill when the Virginia Cavaliers take on the North Carolina Tarheels. Virginia is 5-1 on the year, riding a three game winning streak. Granted the Cavaliers were a 2-10 team a year ago and their opposition hasn’t been the greatest this year, but North Carolina is 1-5 and hosts this game having lost three in a row. NCAAF Predictions Virginia North Carolina are begging you to take the Cavaliers.
Odds
The reason this game seems like a fishy one is because first off the line is ‘only’ Virginia -3. As what happens when a 5-1 team meets a 1-5 team, 74% of the public is liking UVA by that field goal margin. Even with all that heavy action, the line has actually dropped from it’s Virginia -3.5 open. The total is set at 51.
Virginia Cavaliers
The Cavaliers haven’t been getting much love from the oddsmakers as they’ve won three in a row, including two SU wins in which they were underdogs. Virginia won by a TD a week ago over Duke when the Cavs were actually getting a point at home and they went onto the blue turf and beat an albeit struggling Boise State team two weeks ago while getting almost two TD’s. QB Kurt Beckert has led the air attack with 1432 yards for the nation’s #31 ranked pass offense.
North Carolina Tar Heels
UNC has had two major issues this year, they can’t score and they can’t stop anybody. As expected, you’re not going to win a lot of games when you’re 92nd in points scored and 115th in total yards allowed at almost 500 per game. The offense is a good bet to struggle again in the NCAAF Predictions Virginia North Carolina as UVA’s defense is top 30 in yards allowed, passing YPG, and points allowed.
NCAAF Predictions Virginia North Carolina
On paper this seems like an easy Virginia play – but that’s what oddsmakers want you to think. The Tar Heels won last year’s meeting 35-14 in Virginia (granted with NFL #2 pick Mitch Trubisky at QB) and has matched up with tough competition in back to back weeks taking on Notre Dame and Georgia Tech. Virginia is also 1-6 ATS the last seven meetings between the two, has lost 7 in a row outright, and lost 20 of their last 22 road games.
