NCAAF Predictions: Will Troy Have an LSU Hangover? 10/11/17

NCAAF Predictions: South Alabama at Troy

It’s not all baseball and hockey tonight as Wednesday night college football returns to the regular rotation for the next couple months. Sure the game isn’t exactly Alabama / Ohio State but there’s some intrigue in the matchup between South Alabama and Troy regardless. The NCAAF Predictions South Alabama at Troy carries even more mystery with the unknown of a Wednesday night game and for the fact that this is the rubber match in the “Battle for the Belt.”

Odds

Troy is huge favorites at home being favored by -16. The line has actually dropped a bit since opening at Troy -17. What’s weird about this reverse line movement is that roughly 70% of the public actually still likes the Trojans even giving up the 17. The total is 49.

South Alabama Jaguars

There are some questions about the South Alabama offense as starting QB Dallas Davis is listed as questionable with a lingering shoulder injury. Cole Garvin would start in his place and although he struggled with accuracy last week (21-45, TD and 2INT) he did engineer a South Alabama upset of then #24 San Diego State a year ago. South Alabama has played some quality components this year in Ole Miss and Oklahoma State, but will likely need the running game to shine to keep it close in the NCAAF Predictions South Alabama at Troy. RB Xavier Johnson leads a charge that runs for 142.2 YPG, but the Trojans give up only 113.6 per.

Troy Trojans

Troy not only rolled in the dough for their million dollar trip to Baton Rouge to take on LSU, they actually got some name recognition with a huge 24-21 upset in Death Valley. Troy has rattled off four straight and like South Alabama, have the benefit of a bye last week. This is a really good Troy team that only lost 30-24 to Clemson last season. Troy features a diverse attack with the 1-2 combo of Brandon Silvers through the air (1234 passing) and Jordan Chunn on the ground (490 yards, 6TD).

NCAAF Predictions South Alabama at Troy

Troy is good, and easily the better team in this matchup. They also tend to play to the level of their opponents. The Trojans beat Akron by 5 and New Mexico State by 3 despite being double digit favorites in both games. It’s got to be a couple mundane weeks of practice for Troy coming off the LSU win and with South Alabama coming to town. The Trojans needed 15 points in the 4th quarter in last year’s matchup to get a 28-21 win and the line movement confirms a closer game than expected for the NCAAF Predictions South Alabama at Troy.

Pick: South Alabama +16
