NBA Predictions: No Blake, no problem for Clippers vs. Blazers? 1/30/18
With Blake Griffin now in Detroit, will the Clippers win without him on Tuesday night? They’ll host the Trail Blazers at 10:30 p.m. ET tonight.
The Odds: Trail Blazers vs. Clippers, 10:30 p.m. ET, Tuesday
Before Griffin was traded to the Pistons, Los Angeles was a 2.5-point home favorite tonight. Following the trade, however, the line has jumped the fence. Now it’s the Trail Blazers who are 2-point favorites. (The trade didn’t seem to affect the total that much, as the over/under has gone from 220 down to 219.)
Portland enters play with a 27-22 record and is 13-12 on the road this year. Los Angeles is 25-24 overall and 14-11 at home. From a betting standpoint, the Trail Blazers are 23-21 against the spread and 14-9 ATS on the road. The Clippers have been great all year at the betting window, going 27-21 ATS overall. They’re 13-12 against the spread at home this season.
As of Tuesday morning, over 80% of the betting tickets wagered at online sportsbooks are on the Blazers to cover the point spread. Meanwhile, 72% of the betting tickets are also on the under.
Portland Trail Blazers Injury Report
Evan Turner (personal) is probable to play tonight. He’s the only player listed on Portland’s injury report.
Los Angeles Clippers Injury Report
Griffin is now in Detroit and the two players L.A. received in the deal are doubtful to play tonight. Avery Bradley and Tobias Harris are both doubtful to play against the Blazers so their L.A. debuts will have to wait. Meanwhile, Austin Rivers (Achilles) is out and Danilo Gallinari (glute) is questionable.
Our Prediction
The road team has covered the point spread in five of the last six meetings between these two teams. The Blazers are also 4-0-1 against the spread in their last five games overall. They’re 3-0-1 against the number in their last four games versus conference opponents as well. Plus, Portland is 5-0 at the betting window in its last five games playing on three or more days of rest.
Meanwhile, the Clippers have failed to cover in seven of their last 10 home games versus a team with aw inning road record. They’re also 1-4 against the number in their last five games when playing teams from the Northwest.
