Will the first game of Monday Night Football’s double-header between th Saints and Vikings turn into a shootout?
The Matchup: Saints (0-0) at Vikings (0-0), 7:10PM ET, Minneapolis
According to oddsmakers the Vikings are 3-point home favorites tonight against the Saints. New Orleans had opened as a 3.5-point underdog but the line was bet down a half-point to 3.
The total, meanwhile, currently sits at 47.5 points. That number opened as high as 48 at most sports books, but it has been bet down across the board.
New Orleans Saints
New Orleans has been a terrific road bet dating back to last season. The Saints are 9-1 against the spread in their last 10 true road games. They’re also 8-2 against the number in their last 10 games versus NFC opponents. Finally, they’re 10-3 at the betting window in their last 13 games overall.
Where they have struggled to cover is Week 1. In their last six openers, the Saints are just 1-5 against the spread. They’ve also failed to cover on Monday night, going 1-4 against the number in their last five MNF matchups.
Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings were a great bet in September a year ago, covering in every game played this month. They’re also 22-7 against the spread in their last 29 home games and have covered in 38 of their last 55 games overall.
That said, the Vikings have not fared well playing on Monday night. In the team’s last nine Monday Night Football matchups, Minnesota is just 1-8 against the spread.
Our Prediction
The over has been a great bet in this series, cashing in six of the last eight meetings between these two teams. The over is also 4-0-1 in the last five meetings between these two teams in Minnesota.
On the other side, the over is 5-1 in the Saints’ last six openers. It is also 8-3 in New Orleans’ last 11 games played in September. Finally, the over is 11-5 in the Saints’ last 16 games played on Monday night.
